NADDPOD BIG BANG 2024
A collaborative fan challenge for writers and artists for the NADDPOD fandom!
RULES
1. All pieces made for this event must be new. No currently published works will be considered, and if you're adding to a WIP, it must be one that you have not discussed publicly prior to this event. Words previously written will not count towards your word count (e.g. if you sign up with a work in progress that is already 5k, you will still be required to write at least 10k for this event).2. Writers will be allowed to write at a minimum 10,000 words for the event; artists will be required to have at least one finished and rendered piece of art with a background to accompany the fic they've been paired with. Note that these are minimums, so please feel free to exceed these if that feels right for you!3. To participate, you must have an Archive of our Own account (for authors) and a Tumblr or Twitter (for artists). All participants must have an email and a Discord.4. You cannot post or talk about your piece outside of the NADDPOD Big Bang Discord. There are scheduled days during which participants will be encouraged to post previews.5. You cannot participate as both a writer and an artist. You cannot participate as both a writer and a pinch hitter, or as an artist and a pinch hitter. You can participate as a beta and another role, but please be sure you will not be overloading yourself by taking on a beta'ing role as well.6. Regardless of length or detail, all pieces must be finished upon the posting deadline.7. While not required, beta readers are highly encouraged — there's a channel to post in the discord if you are seeking a beta. Betas not in the exchange are not allowed; however there is a beta sign up form if you know someone who would be interested in exclusively beta'ing.8. Any content containing RPF, or real person fiction, will not be allowed.9. Absolutely no content by AI will be allowed.10. Crossovers are allowed, but NADDPOD characters must be centered if you are writing a crossover AU.11. As this is an all-ages event, explicit content will not be allowed. However, violence, fade to black, and more raunchy jokes in line with the humor of the show are allowed.
QUESTION: What is a Big Bang?
A Big Bang is a collaborative fandom event between writers and artists. Writers will write a fanfiction and be matched with an artist, who will make accompanying art.
QUESTION: What if I want to participate, but don't have a Discord?
Unfortunately, we do require all participants to have a Discord account to participate.
QUESTION: Can I continue an existing AU or a series I have?
You can write a prequel or sequel to an existing series or fanfiction you have written, however, it must be able to stand on its own. You must ensure that you don't need any prior knowledge of the series to understand the work you're writing for the Big Bang.
QUESTION: Do I have to have a beta?
No! Betas are not mandatory; however, if you would like a beta, there is a channel in the discord to help you find a beta.
QUESTION: Are original characters allowed?
Original characters are allowed, however, the focus of your piece should be on the existing NADDPOD characters.
QUESTION: What happens if I have to drop out?
Please contact the mods and let us know as soon as possible.
QUESTION: What happens if my partner drops out?
We will do our best to rearrange pairings if it's early enough; if it's later, we will do our best to match you with a pinch hitter.
QUESTION: Are check-ins required?
Yes! While we are not setting any specific word count goals or sketch requirements for the check ins, they are required, so that we know you are collaborating and still participating in the event. If you miss multiple check ins and don't discuss it with a mod, we may be forced to drop you from the event.QUESTION: What if there is someone I do not want to be matched with?
Please message a mod or let us know in your sign up form if there is someone you absolutely do not want to be matched with.
QUESTION: HOW DO I SIGN UP?
Follow the links & fill out the appropriate Google form. One of our mods will get back to you shortly with a link to our discord.
QUESTION: Are there any requirements to join this event?
You have to be over thirteen, as those are the requirements to make a Discord account, and if you are joining as an author, you must have an Archive of our Own account. If you are joining as an artist, you must have a Tumblr or Twitter account.
QUESTION: Can I write a crossover fic for this event?
Yes! We're thrilled to see your ideas for crossover fics. However, we do require that the NADDPOD characters are centered in the fic (e.g. an au where Hardwon and Moonshine are Pacific Rim yeager pilots would be allowed, but an au where Raleigh and Mako are in Bahumia would not be allowed).
QUESTION: Can I write explicit content for this event?
Unfortunately, this is an all-ages event, so explicit content will not be allowed. However, violence, fade to black, and more raunchy jokes in line with the humor of the show are allowed. If you absolutely feel you want to write or draw NSFW content, you can feel free to write/draw it and put it in a series with your Big Bang fic after it's published. However, this will not count towards your word count or art requirement for the event.
QUESTION: I want to join, but I'm not a writer or a visual artist. How can I join?
If you do a different kind of art (music, fiber arts, etc) please contact the mods & we'll discuss what we think would be a reasonable equivalent to 10,000 words and a finished and rendered piece of visual art.QUESTION: What if I have a question that's not addressed here?
